Aikido of Modesto

Aikido of Modesto is a non-profit organization of dedicated akidoists who practice the "martial art of peace." Aikido is a very effective Japanese martial art emphasizing defense and avoidance of conflict rather than offense and attack. The word itself is a combination of three terms: Ai meaning harmony; Ki meaning energy, and Do which means the way. So Aikido literally means "the way of harmony and energy." Developed by Morihei Ueshiba *   in the 1930s and 40s, Aikido does not focus on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on blending with the attacker and using his energy to gain control of the situation through the use of a pin or a throw. Aikido offers self-defense, physical health and fitness, friendship, spiritual enlightenment, and peace of mind. Please, come and experience our community! All are welcome!
